Mufti Institution was first
founded before the country’s independent
day
In 1957, The State of Melaka
has produce one enactment which is named as
Enekmen Pentadbiran Hukum Syarak Negeri Melaka
1959 (amendment in 1991 and 2002). The State
Mufti’s post and its function are legally
formed under this enactment.
During the earlier stage, Melaka
Mufti Department is under one section in Melaka
Islamic Religious Department. It is known
as Fatwa Department. However, in 1996, Jabatan
Perkhidmatan Awam (Public Services Department)
has circulated a letter regarding the separateness
of Fatwa Department under each Religious Department
in Malaysia.
Melaka Mufti Department has
setting up strategies to increase its contribution
towards the grandeur and eminence of Islam:
By producing related fatwa
based on controversial issues or any rising
of doubt regarding Islamic Laws and teachings.
By increasing understandings
and appreciation of community towards the
truth in Islamic Law.
By developing Muslim Astronomy’s
field thru educational, research and astro-tourism
activities.
By having research and development
in fatwa and astronomy areas.
By fully utilize ICT in the
whole department; and
By generating collaboration
with skilled agencies, educational agencies
or private sectors in their own field
